About Dr Brent McMonagle

Dr Brent McMonagle is a highly trained Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Surgeon with over a decade of experience providing the highest quality care for children and adults on the Gold Coast and surrounding regions.

The cornerstone of his practice is treating patients with the standard of care and compassion he would expect for his own family.

Dr McMonagle is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and a Member of Australasian Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons (ASOHNS).

Growing up on the Gold Coast, Dr McMonagle attended The Southport School and completed his medical degree at University of Queensland in 1996.

Over the next decade Dr McMonagle specialised as an ENT surgeon including advanced training fellowships in Advanced Ear, Sinus, Paediatric and Skull-base Surgery in Sydney, Adelaide and London.

Dr McMonagle has a strong interest in research, completing his PhD at Griffith University in 2012 (on the use of nasal (olfactory) cells in nerve regeneration and repair), teaching and publishing in international medical journals.

  • Research and Innovation

    • Dr McMonagle established the bone anchored hearing aid (2008) and cochlear implant programs (2010) and introduced image guidance surgery for endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery to the Gold Coast in 2007.

    • Dr McMonagle was awarded a PhD thesis for research on Olfactory Ensheathing Cells and Stem Cells in Nerve Repair and Regeneration.

  • Recognition and Achievements

    Dr McMonagle has academic appointments at Griffith and Bond Universities.

    He regularly attends and speaks at conferences nationally and internationally and publishes in international medical journals.

    Awards include:
    - The Court and Lilley Scholarship (RACS)
    - Passe Williams Memorial Foundation Grant
    - NHMRC Grant
    - Several ongoing grants from the Motor Accident and Insurance Commission (MAIC).

  • Spinal Injury Research

    • As the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation’s Scientific Director, Dr McMonagle is involved in the Spinal Injury Project in conjunction with the Menzies Health Institute, providing nasal tissue samples, acting as one of the clinical leads, and is on the Clem Jones Advisory Board for this project.
